Honduras Mural Project

2014

The Honduras Mural Project was a social exchange event wherein a group of parents and students from The Austin School for the Performing and Visual Arts traveled to a small fishing village on the island of Roatan, Honduras to work with a local group of parents and students to create a mural at the Alpha Community Center. The goal of the project was to encourage American students to think outside of themselves and create meaningful interaction when traveling to foreign places and to leave the community we joined a better place. I was asked to design and lead the project. A local minister from Pandy Town, Pastor Hank Stanley, assisted with coordination. Creation of the mural gave everyone a reason to work together and a sense of community upon completion. The mural enhanced a rather bleak and dark corner of the community center, which since has become a gathering place for church members and the community at large.
