This project involved the creation of a community mural in the Dawson Neighborhood. The owners of a local business approached the neighborhood association and wanted to host a family picnic and community-building event. I was asked to facilitate the painting of a mural to be placed in the neighborhood along South Congress.

One of the challenges of this project involved the fact that there was a very broad age range of participants working on the mural. A large, bold landscape was pre-painted for the background so that the piece could be seen from a distance. Picnic guests painted simple birds throughout the sky. Stencils aided young painters and those with little or no artistic ability.

Everyone had a wonderful day, and the mural added a bright spot of color to an otherwise vacant lot.
